The project pays homage to the Afro-Cuban Jazz interpreting modern arrangements of the milestones of this music, for instance Michel Camilo’s arrangements of Mambo Inn, as well as original arrangements of other groundbreaking compositions like Claudia by Chucho Valdes.

ModulAfro is a band born in Codarts and based in Rotterdam.

The project pays homage to the Afro-Cuban Jazz interpreting modern arrangements of the milestones of this music, for instance Michel Camilo’s arrangements of Mambo Inn, as well as original arrangements of other groundbreaking compositions like Claudia by Chucho Valdes.

Generally the band embrances the sonorities of the Modern Afro-Cuban Jazz, Timba Jazz and Cuban Fusion.

The sound of the band is characterized by the traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms mixed with jazz melodies and  harmonies enriched by unexpected moments of interaction between the members of the band.

The project was initiated by present students and alumni of the Jazz and Latin Departments in Codarts. The members of the band find each other in the musical and cultural melting pot of Codarts performing together inside and outside of the university environment.
